Beating the Pavement

Today was my first pseudo-productive day of unemployment. I got up early, showered, put on make-up (for the first time since getting laid off) and went out to look for a new job. I had a game plan to attack the day and myself and Lady Loser 1 were off to find great new careers. Unfortunately, the day fizzled after the first visit to a potential employer. First of all, there are no jobs in this area right now – I mean nothing!! Secondly, I am way overqualified for some of the positions I am applying for hence the fact that they will not call me back or even take a look at my resume. (I would like to make a side note here: if I am applying for this job then I need this job. Mr. Employer you should be grateful that with this economy you can get a deal on someone like me. Take advantage of the crappy job market and get a skilled worker for less.)

Metallics are so HOT Right Now

I have decided that in order to get out of my funk – or at least take a step in the right direction – I need to look at some beautiful shoes. Since I can remember I have always cheered myself up by shopping. I am sure this makes me some kind of addict and I more than likely need some sort of support group but right now I don’t care. I want that instant gratification, that surge of adrenaline that comes from buying a new pair of shoes. And if you want to take it to the next level …find me a sale. So I am back to basics today, I am finding extraordinary shoes and then their much cheaper counterparts. I know there is something here to make you smile as well.

When it Rains it Pours

Today has been the rainiest day that I remember in a long time. It has however been the perfect day to sleep in and that is exactly what I have done . I need to de-stress, to let my mind wander to a place that is free of unemployment and BS. I am going to watch my basketball team make it to the Elite Eight! I do have a bit of happiness since Duke lost last night…like I knew they would since they are notorious choke artists. I think Coach K might have lost his touch and his fall from the top seems to be painstakingly long for the Dukies but oh so sweet for the Carolina faithful. Roy resurrected our basketball program and it seems like the Carolina blue and white will be seen during March at least for the next few years to come. I love March Madness and I love even more Duke’s mediocre performance in the tourney…hopefully this post doesn’t come back to bite me in the ass. I know karma can sometimes be a bitch.
Ms. Bad Boss aka SA

I have a request to give more details about Ms. Bad Boss, to be referred to from here on out as SA. This is a direct reference to the way she saunters throughout the office: head down, ass shaking and making no attempt whatsoever to make any eye contact with her peon employees. It reminds me of a renaissance royal who could not be bothered to mingle with the commoners. The main difference here is that 1. those she throws her nose up at are the ones making her life easier 2. a majority of these people have either more time at the company, higher educations or just as much experience as she does and 3. her job is to effectively manage these people.

Day 2…and the Boredom continues

I apologize for not writing about the new glorious python handbags or unbelievable Manolo satin shoes that I have seen while taking breaks from the job hunt but somehow it seems cruel to look at all these things that I can’t afford right now. My days of online shopping must come to screeching halt. I have replaced online searches for designer bags with google searches for the PERFECT job. I am still just as clueless as ever on what move to make next but am motivated to look at all my possibilities and try something out of the box. Lady Loser 1 called today and said that she found solace in the blog so for her I will continue to write about the trials of being newly unemployed. There is an appreciation and understanding for others in the same situation that I never had before. I am not destitute or on the verge of foreclosure but at the same time I have a feeling of shame and failure that only those in my same shoes can appreciate.
